The making

From clay to kiln, in five weeks.

  1. Week 1ThrowingEach piece is wheel-thrown by hand in the courtyard studio.
  2. Week 2DryingPieces are turned and trimmed, then air-dried for seven days.
  3. Week 3BisqueFirst firing at cone 06 — the body becomes ceramic.
  4. Week 4GlazingGlazes are mixed in small batches; each piece is dipped or brushed.
  5. Week 5The kilnFinal firing at cone 10. Fourteen-hour cycle. The result is the result.
